Young people’s contribution to the EU’s future

2017

The 12th edition of our Secondary Schools Competition took place in Estonia, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Scotland and Slovakia, and involved pupils aged between 14-18 years. The first stage of the competition was a multiple-choice test that assessed the pupils’ knowledge on the European Union and the EU institutions, while the second one was to write an essay on the role of young people for the future success of the EU.

The winners, accompanied by their teachers participated in the European Committee of the Regions plenary session held in Brussels on 12 and 13 July 2017 where they met the current president and president-elect of the CoR, Mr Markku Markkula and Mr Karl-Heinz Lambertz, as well as members of the EA group.

In addition, the students visited the European Parliament and learned about the history of the European Union at the European House of History. Lastly, on 13 July, a bus tour took them around the city centre of Brussels.
