he 14th edition of the EA Group’s Secondary Schools Writing Competition gathered high school students from 7 member states: Estonia, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.
Students from nominated schools completed a quiz testing their knowledge of different EU-related topics and wrote an essay on the topic “how to increase young people’s participation in the upcoming European Elections”.
Two winning students from each school had the opportunity to attend the 135th plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions on 26 and 27 June 2019.
They met the President of the European Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz and took part in a meeting with EA Group members where they gave interesting and colourful presentations about their schools and regions.
The participants also visited the House of European History and enjoyed an educational tour of Brussels before returning to their home countries.
We find this is a great way to engage young people in the EU and to help them connect with and learn from their peers from different countries and regions. We loved watching them make connections with each other and we hope some lasting friendships will be formed.
