The 13th edition of our Secondary Schools Competition gathered pupils from 9 schools from Estonia, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Scotland and Slovakia.
The competition consisted of a multiple-choice quiz about the EU and an essay on the importance of preserving and promoting cultural heritage in the European Union and its regions and cities.
18 students and 9 teachers/parents took part in the two days event in Brussels between the 3rd and 5th of July 2018. The winners visited the Committee of the Regions and had the opportunity to meet and take photos with the members representing their regions. They were welcomed by the EA President Mr Karl Vanlouwe, who provided them with an introduction about the EA group, the CoR and the European institutions. Afterwards, the students were given the opportunity to present their own schools and regions. Members and students had an exchange of views as to issues of topical relevance in the EU.
The students had a tour of the European Parliament which was followed by a photo opportunity with the President of the CoR Mr Karl-Heinz Lambertz and the EA group President Mr Vanlouwe. The winners then attended the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions after which they visited the European House of History. Before leaving Brussels, the winners visited some beautiful and interesting places in the city during an open-topped bus tour.
